Writing
A man who keeps a diary, pays
Due toll to many tedious days;
But life becomes eventful–then
His busy hand forgets the pen.
Most books, indeed, are records less
Of fulness than of emptiness.
William Allingham (1824-1889) was an Irish poet and editor who was associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement. He is known for his use of traditional poetic forms and for his exploration of themes of nature and love. His most famous works include "The Faeries" and "The Flower-Show." Allingham was also a close friend of many of the leading Victorian writers and artists, including Alfred Lord Tennyson and Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
