On His Seventy-fifth Birthday
I strove with none, for none was worth my strife;
Nature I loved, and next to Nature, Art;
I warmed both hands before the fire of Life;
It sinks, and I am ready to depart.
Walter Savage Landor (1775-1864) was an English writer and poet who is best known for his poetry and his prose works. Landor's most famous works include "Imaginary Conversations" and "Gebir." Landor was also a friend of many of the leading literary figures of his time, including Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth.
