On His Eightieth Birthday
To my ninth decade I have tottered on,
And no soft arm bends now my steps to steady;
She, who once led me where she would, is gone,
So when he calls me, Death shall find me ready.
Walter Savage Landor (1775-1864) was an English writer and poet who is best known for his poetry and his prose works. Landor's most famous works include "Imaginary Conversations" and "Gebir." Landor was also a friend of many of the leading literary figures of his time, including Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth.
