William Edmondstoune Aytoun (1813-1865) was a Scottish poet, lawyer, and professor of rhetoric and belles-lettres at the University of Edinburgh. He was best known for his humorous and satirical poems, including "Lays of the Scottish Cavaliers" and "Firmilian: A Spasmodic Tragedy." Aytoun was also a political activist and was involved in the Scottish national movement.
